Jackson was born and raised in San Antonio Texas and lived
for a short while in New York City. The things he saw and experienced
in New York and everywhere in between gave him a wide variety
of people and situations
to draw lyrical inspiration from. Growing up listening to the
Beatles, Johnny Cash, the Rolling Stones, and Steve Earle gave
him a diverse musical foundation and helped shape his sound.
The result of this are two albums full of everything from
light-hearted country songs like "Smoke 'em If You Got 'em"
and "No Better" to edgy rock numbers with well written and
intelligent lyrics like "Kerosene", "Miss Communication",
and "Boomtown". The albums were recorded in
San Antonio at Tribal Recording and produced by Jackson and
Chad Garrett, and include such notable players as Bobby Flores
and Andrew Langham from Ray Prices band, and Billy Brent
Malkus from Nathan Hamilton and No Deal. Jackson works at
trying to make the perfect Americana record -- a little bit
country and a trifle bit rock and roll. "I'm not Johnny
Cash, but I really do try to walk the line," he jokes.
Jackson's ability is more suited for the stage than the studio.
A Jackson Parten show is simply three guys
putting all their energy into the music and genuinely enjoying
every minute of it. Their sound is at home in any dancehall
or bar in Texas, but this is definitely not your father's country
music.
Jackson Parten is going places and he's going there on his own terms, playing
his music and winning over listeners one well-crafted song and kickass performance
at a time.
